Shenandoah University Events and Lecture Series I have developed and presented lectures, exhibitions, articles, and essays for The Knowledge Point, Shenandoah University’s Historical and Tourism Center. These include not only my own scholarship on the art and imagery of the Shenandoah Valley from ca. 1840 to 1940, but programs and lectures by visiting artists and art historians--the annual Virginia Wojno-Forney Art Lecture Series. Co-sponsored by various SU entities, the art lecture series includes speakers every fall, in October, and spring, in March and April. ![]() Mapping, Pathfinding, Territorializing, Reenacting: The Shenandoah Valley and the Stonewall Jackson Campaign, 1862 The Knowledge Point Website ![]() From Corridor to Metaphor: Images of the Valley Road 1860-1930 Exhibitions Mapping, Pathfinding, Territorializing, Reenacting: The Shenandoah Valley and the Stonewall Jackson Campaign, 1862 Exhibition of Artifacts from the Bruce and Geraldine Kiefer Shenandoah Valley Image Collection, Fall 2005 Exhibition handout From Corridor to Metaphor: Images of the Valley Road 1860-1930 Exhibition, Summer 2004 Introduction - Essays - Slideshow 1 - Slideshow 2 (installation) Talismans of the Long Gray Trail: Vistas, the Valley, and the Veterans of 1885 An Exhibition of Mixed-Media Assemblages by Geraldine Wojno Kiefer, ongoing Essay - Exhibition listing - Artist's statement - Slideshow Winchester Panorama, Talismans of the Long Gray Trail Talismans of the Long Gray Trail, Shenandoah University History and Tourism Center, 2004 Lectures Visualizing and Remembering the Civil War: The Art of the Battle of Sharpsburg Lecture abstract The Art of the Battle of Sharpsburg, Centre College Press release Strategy and Sublimity: Mapping and Articulating The Valley Pike in the Civil War, 1861-1865 Lecture abstract Prospects on a History of Images of the Shenandoah Valley: The Sublimity of Battle and the Quietude of Remembrance Lecture abstract Valley Pike Series, Talismans of the Long Gray Trail Conferences The Virginia Forum, 7-9 April 2006 Frances Benjamin Johnston and The Ladies' Homes Journal Visit the Country of Sheridan's Ride Lecture abstract (pages 6, 27-28 of conference program) Frances Benjamin Johnston, "The Country of Sheridan's Ride," The Ladies' Home Journal, July 1901, pp. 16-17 The Valley Road of Virginia: History and Landscape, 4-5 June 2004 “’Paving the Way’ for the Valley Road: Preservation Strategies for a Cultural Landscape” Precis for session Shenandoah University Regional Studies Forum, 13 February 2004 Issues in the Regional Studies of the Shenandoah Valley 1840 Valley Ave., c. 1875--Built by Festus Haun. ca. 1930s.
